CHINA-MEKONG LAW CENTER PROMOTES COLLABORATION AMONG LAW SCHOOLS, SCHOLARS AND STUDENTS TO IMPROVE PEDAGOGY IN ASIAN LEGAL EDUCATION
Established on August 13, 1996, China-Mekong Law Center (“CMLC”) is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit corporation organized under the laws of the District of Columbia. CMLC was originally created to cooperate with a Thai Foundation called the” Mekong Region Law Center” on legal reform training in mainland Southeast Asia. Soon after its creation, however, CMLC quickly began its own independent efforts to assist in the development of the legal systems in China, Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam. Increasingly CMLC carries out its mission with a focus on improving legal education in China and the Greater Mekong Sub-region.
Fresh off the establishment and operation of an innovative legal education program in Beijing, CMLC now hopes to duplicate and expand upon its success, focusing on a number of programs to bring together and benefit students and scholars from China and the Mekong Region, in collaboration with new partnerships with institutions both in Asia and the U.S. Our revived mission is grounded in the following initiatives:
#1 Mekong Region Legal Studies Program;
#2 Mekong Region Research and Training Center;
# 4 Program on Administrative Law in Myanmar
